Fitted cap size chart
A cap size is a hat size — the same head circumference, the same eighth-inch fractions — but caps are sold in three fitting systems. This chart leads with the fitted fractions and explains the other two.

Stretch-fit caps: S/M, M/L, L/XL
Elastic-blend caps use combined sizes that each cover a span of head circumferences. Stretch-fit hats use combined sizes (S/M, M/L, L/XL). These bands are a general guide and vary by brand; check the brand's own chart.

Adjustable closures fit a wide range of heads. Correct cap size still matters for crown depth, and where the strap parking spots sit.
Stretch-fit caps

What size is a medium fitted cap?
On fitted caps the fraction is the size, not the letter: a head of about 55.8–56.8 cm (22–22 3/8 in) takes US 7 to 7 1/8, which is the usual 'medium' zone. Letter sizes on fitted caps are only marketing shorthand — always match the fraction.
What is the difference between fitted and snapback caps?
Fitted caps are sewn in exact sizes and have no closure — the cap size must match your head. Snapbacks have a plastic strap you adjust, so one snapback covers many heads, but the crown shape and depth still matter for comfort.
What does S/M or M/L mean on a cap?
Combined sizes belong to stretch-fit (flex-fit) caps, whose elastic headband covers a span of fitted sizes. Treat the bands in the stretch-fit table as a general guide, then check the brand's own chart — the spans vary by manufacturer.
How should a fitted baseball cap feel?
Snug all the way around the crown, resting comfortably above the ears, staying put when you tilt your head forward, and not leaving a deep red line on your forehead. If you are between sizes, take the larger one and add a thin sizing strip inside the band.
